Silverdale Train Service

Silverdale is lucky to have a train service. Unfortunately in recent times the service has become very unreliable. Strikes are a regular feature. Cancellations due to staff shortages and a multitude of other excuses are frequent. Trains are often late. And then timetable changes in June 2018 resulted in chaos. Trying to find out how bad things really were I found the official statistics to be of little help as they are often based on revised timetables, introduced at short notice, with a reduced service. I therefore decided to start collecting my own records so that a real picture could be obtained of how the service is performing. These pages are the result.

In the 'signals' the top pie chart show the number of trains that actually arrived at Silverdale, out of the number that were 'timetabled' to arrive. The lower pie chart shows the average wait for a timetabled train, i.e. the average time from when a train was timetabled to arrive to when the first train in the same direction actually arrived. Each wait is limited to 2 hours maximum. Note that the main published timetables are used (normally updated twice a year) and not the temporary (reduced) timetables introduced by Northern Rail all too frequently.
