The Technology

In March 2011 eHideaway acquired a Davis Vantage Vue with Weatherlink for its Keswick site (since relocated to Cockermouth and now Silverdale).

The website does not use the Weatherlink software provided with station. Instead bespoke Python programs running on a Raspberry Pi are used to extract data from the station, to aggregate the data, to load the data into a MySQL database in the cloud and to calculate the various minimum and maximum records. The interface to the Vantage Vue console is based on that developed by Tom Keffer for WeeXx.

The cloud database is used with PHP, Javascript and the dygraphs JavaScript Visualization Library to generate and display the site's pages and plots. A data browser application, developed using Appgini, lets authorised users query the database contents.

The weather station is located at an elevation of 41 metres in Silverdale, a village on the coast to the south of the English Lake District, between Kendal and Lancaster. Before 9 October 2017, the weather station was located to the north of the English Lake District in Cockermouth and, before 10 April 2014, in nearby Keswick.

Browser Compatibility

The site has been tested with the major browsers. It is HTML5 and CSS compliant.
